The New iPhones Have Issues

What has a forged aluminum unibody design with a Ceramic Shield 2 front and color-matched back glass? The new iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro Max of course. It never ceases to amaze. Anytime Apple releases a new product people camp overnight to be the first in line to buy it. Long lines form at Apple Stores worldwide the day of a new product launch. Is it the sleek new design that lures them in, the promise of enhanced battery life and upgraded camera system? Or is it simply the thrill of getting to say, “I was there”? We may never know but after putting in the effort to be the first to get a new iPhone one would hope it would outperform their old one. In the case of the iPhone 18 and Pro Max, that’s not what users are saying.

Apple customers have complained about the weight of the phone, connectivity issues, face ID issues, problems with the ceramic back glass, and speaker issues. The high price is also problems for many, especially when you consider that the iPhone 18 looks almost identical to the iPhone 17 – just heavier. Depending on the storage option chosen, the new iPhones are priced between $1200 and $2000. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max started at $900 and $1200 respectively.

As for the super cool iPhone Duo, the company’s first foldable smartphone, users claim the screen cracks when the phone is opened then closed, the hinges make it difficult to open, and the phone feels noticeably warm to the touch during normal tasks like Facetime calls. Because smartphones are powered by lithium-ion batteries, it makes sense to wonder if thermal runaway could be an issue when the device overheats. Apple has stated that “normal thermal warmth does not pose a safety risk”. Which is good to know, as long as the smartphone isn’t dropped and damaged. Bottom line, if you were thinking of upgrading your iPhone, you may want to wait until Apple fixes all the issues before spending the money.
